You probably heard the saying, "Change your thinking, change your life," repeated over and over by motivational speakers, thought leaders and many others. While that may be true to some extent, it takes more than a change in thinking to make a life transformation. You have to change your mindset, to truly transform your life.
You see, change and transformation are two different things, just as thinking and mindset are different. As one unknown author put it, "Change fixes the past, transformation creates the future." When you make a change in your life, it is based on past (and present) circumstances that you no longer want to occur. Yet, until you make a commitment to transform it, you can go back - like diet's, the change is only temporary. Change is constant, transformation is permanent. When you transform, it involves altering your lifestyle with regard to a specific area.
One way to look at transformation is by observing a caterpillar. At first, the caterpillar is just a grotesque insect until it transforms into a majestic butterfly. The caterpillar transformed from crawling to flying and totally changed its appearance - it can not go back to what it was before.
Taking on a different mindset is essentially a transformation. When you change your mindset, you totally transform your belief system without letting past experiences negatively influence you. In her best selling book, Mindset, Stanford psychologist Carol Dweek says, "...the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. When you enter a mindset, you enter a new world."
Webster's dictionary defines mindset as, "a mental attitude, inclination; a fixed state of mind." When you change your mindset, you literally formulate a different belief system. On the other hand, when you change your thinking, you can change it back again.
When a transformation takes place it is permanent; things can not go back to how there were before the transformation. So change your mindset and your life will change.
