Are You Planning for a Better New Year?

Posted by on December 29, 2015 at 12:40 AM

If there is one thing I have learned is the path to success in any area of life is by following a plan. As the year comes to a close have you reflected on your successes as well as the things you did not accomplish? Have you put together a game plan for the coming year?

It doesn't matter how elaborate or slack the plan is, but it does matter that you take the time and effort to write down some plan or goals you want to achieve next year. I have had some great successes and some equally disappointing failures. The difference in the level of success I achieved was planning. People plan for success, not failure.

Keeping it transparent, I admit that I have had some challenges this year; I've even been a little negative (yes, me, the queen of positivity); nevertheless, I am working on my plan to overcome those challenges and achieve even greater success in the New Year.

Here are some tips to help you get started on developing your Success Plan for 2016:

1. Have a vision. Decide what it is you want to achieve. Even the Bible says, "Without vision the people perish." A vision will help you establish direction, then you can develop a plan to guide you there.

2. See yourself succeeding. Before you write down the first word, you must believe that you already have the success you want. Begin with the end in mind. If you want that new job, see yourself as already having received it. Then channel your energies and actions toward getting it - tweak your resume and cover letter, establish some inside contacts at the company who can get your resume in the hands of the hiring manager or other influencer - I think you get the picture. These steps should all be included as part of your plan.

3. Do not give up. No matter what circumstances look like, keep pushing forward and continue to develop your plan for success. At times you might think the plan is not worth the effort, and want to abandon it. That is the worse thing you can do. It is important that you keep writing your plan no matter how far fetched it sounds (you can always go back and revise it later). The important thing is that you don't quit.

4. Put the time in. Just like anything else worth having, developing your success plan takes time. Set aside some time each day to write, review, and reflect on the plan. By setting aside time each day for planning establishes a routine and helps you establish discipline.

5. Go get it. Once you get your plan on paper, Activate it. Start working your plan and keep at it until you get what you get what you want.

Have a Happy & Prosperous New Year!
